Methodology

Nutrition values are transcribed from a cited first-party source and dated. The three ratios below are calculated from those recorded values. Missing values are not estimated, and the site assigns no proprietary score.

What gets recorded

Nutrition and serving values are transcribed from the cited source; categories and dietary attributes are recorded separately under the rules below.

  • Brand or restaurant, item name and category.
  • Serving size as the source states it.
  • Calories, protein, fiber, total fat, saturated fat, carbohydrates, sugar and sodium per serving.
  • Vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free attributes, recorded as yes, no or not verified.
  • A reference price in US dollars with its own source link and verification date.
  • The source name, the source URL and the date the values were last verified.

The three calculations

Only three derived numbers are shown, each calculated directly from recorded values:

  • Protein per 100 calories = (protein g ÷ calories) × 100
  • Fiber per 100 calories = (fiber g ÷ calories) × 100
  • Protein per dollar = protein g ÷ reference price in US dollars

Each ratio is shown only when all required inputs exist and its denominator is greater than zero. Otherwise it reads “Not available”. Protein and fiber per 100 calories require the nutrient value and calories. Protein per dollar requires protein and the item’s own sourced reference price; retailer offers are listed separately and are never averaged into it.

How the calculations work

Three simple ratios, computed only when the underlying values exist. Missing data stays missing; it is never treated as zero. Change any figure below to see the arithmetic.

kcal
g
g
USD
protein per 100 calories
6.9 g

(22 ÷ 320) × 100 = 6.9

How this is calculated: (protein g ÷ calories) × 100. Shown only when calories are greater than zero.

fiber per 100 calories
1.9 g

(6 ÷ 320) × 100 = 1.9

How this is calculated: (fiber g ÷ calories) × 100. Shown only when both values are available.

protein per dollar
5.1 g

22 ÷ 4.29 = 5.1

How this is calculated: protein g ÷ a price you enter. No sourced prices are on the site yet, so this ratio is available here only.

The FDA sodium threshold for meals and main dishes

One curated list, low-sodium frozen meals, applies the FDA numeric sodium threshold for meals and main dish products: 140 mg of sodium or less per 100 g, set out in 21 CFR 101.61(b)(5). Sodium per 100 g = (labeled sodium mg ÷ serving weight in grams) × 100, and eligibility is decided on the unrounded values before any rounding for display.

The serving weight must be a single unambiguous gram figure for the same labeled serving the nutrition values describe, taken from the manufacturer source recorded with the item and its date checked. Servings stated only in millilitres or ounces, weight ranges, several different weights, package weights that are not the serving, and missing weights are all excluded. No weight is estimated from volume, and an item that cannot be evaluated is left out rather than assumed to qualify. Applying this published threshold is not FDA approval, certification, or an assessment of full labeling compliance.

Missing values

A value the source does not publish is shown as “Not provided”. When a sort or filter uses that field, the item is excluded from that sort or filter rather than placed as though the value were zero. Missing values are never estimated or treated as zero.

Dietary attributes

Vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free attributes are stored as yes, no or not verified. A public badge appears only when the manufacturer or restaurant states that claim itself, and only when that claim is recorded with its own source link and the date it was read. Each attribute needs its own evidence: a vegan claim is not evidence for the vegetarian badge.

A manual review of ingredient and allergen information can rule an attribute out, but it can never create a public badge on its own: a yes recorded from ingredient reasoning alone shows no badge until a first-party claim is cited. These are recorded claims, not certifications. An absent badge means only that no first-party claim has been recorded here; it does not prove the opposite.

A vegetarian, vegan or gluten-free filter matches only items whose claim is recorded with that evidence. Unevidenced yes values, no and not verified never match, and a filter with no evidenced items is not offered at all. Ingredients and manufacturing practices can change, so anyone managing celiac disease, a severe allergy or another medically necessary restriction should verify the current package and manufacturer information.

Publication rules

An item is public only after it has a brand, a name, a category, calories, protein, a source name, an https source URL and a verification date. Drafts are invisible to visitors, to search on this site, to the sitemap and to the public API. Records that fail these checks stay unpublished rather than being filled in with guesses.

What this site does not do

This site has no proprietary score, traffic-light rating, or “approved” list. FDA has not established nutrition criteria for the phrase “GLP-1 friendly,” so this site does not certify foods as suitable for GLP-1 medication use. It shows the numbers and their sources so you can compare them yourself.
