Sources policy

Each published item links to the source its numbers were copied from, and shows the date those numbers were last checked against it.

Accepted sources

Nutrition values are recorded only from a first-party published source:

  • The manufacturer’s or restaurant’s own product page or nutrition information.
  • The published nutrition panel or downloadable nutrition guide for that item.

Aggregator sites, user-submitted databases and social posts are not used as the source of a nutrition value.

Dietary attributes

A public badge requires an explicit first-party claim from the manufacturer or restaurant, recorded with its own source link and the date that claim was read. A documented review of ingredient and allergen information can rule an attribute out, but never creates a badge on its own. Recorded claims are not certifications, and an absent badge does not prove a negative. The methodology sets out the full rules; anyone managing celiac disease, a severe allergy or another medically necessary restriction should verify the current package and manufacturer information.

Prices

A price is stored only with its own source link and its own verification date, in US dollars. Prices vary by location and retailer, so a price here describes what the linked source listed on the date given, not what you will pay. Retailer listings are recorded separately from the item’s reference price.

Dates and re-verification

A “last checked” date means the recorded values matched the cited source that day. There is no fixed review schedule: sources are re-checked when a record is edited, and a figure whose source no longer matches is corrected or the item is unpublished. Products change, so check the linked source for the latest information.

Corrections

If a value here disagrees with the linked source, the source wins. We re-read the cited page and update the record, with the verification date reset. Items whose source page disappears are unpublished rather than left standing on an unverifiable citation.

Source and retailer links point to third-party sites that this project does not control and is not responsible for. They are there so you can check a figure yourself.
